Course Contents

To develop life skills for interpersonal skills and leadership.


Towards the end of the course/training the participants will be able to –

 

a)     Define Life Skills

b)    Practice the life skills in their respective area of work for personal development and team enhancement.


Course Duration & Outline – the course will be of 15hrs spread across 5 days and based on participative training methodology which will include interactive sessions involving activity and case-based communication. It will involve continuous assessment based on participation of each individual in the group. At the end of the session there will be one presentation based graded assignment.

 

Part 1: Social Skills

 

1.     Self-Awareness: (90 minutes)

Learning Objectives – Towards the end of the session the participants will be able to

·      Identify their two strengths and two weaknesses, their interests, aspirations and concerns

·      Develop profound understanding of their self.

 

2.     Empathy: (90 minutes)

Learning Objectives – After this lesson, learners will be able to

·      Practice taking perspective of others

·      Learn & discuss what empathy is

·      Learn the 5 steps of advanced empathy

·      Practice empathy with those who think differently

 

3.     Interpersonal Relationships: (90 minutes)

Learning Objectives – After this lesson, learners will be able to

·      Identify different kinds of relationships

·      Gain ways to work in teams & understanding the strength/qualities of a team

·      Learn about “boundaries” & will explore their own specific personal boundaries

·      Learn how to end relationships constructively.

 

4.     Conflict Resolution & Effective Communication: (90 Minutes)

Learning Objectives – By the end of the session the participants will be able to –

·      Learn healthy and unhealthy way to handle conflicts

·      Learn and experience the steps of win-win negotiation

·      Apply the steps of negotiation & effective communication to real & hypothetical situation

 

Part 2: Thinking Skills

 

1.     Decision Making and Creative Thinking: (90 minutes)

Learning Objectives – By the end of the session the participants will be to –

·      Examine how they make decisions

·      Identify & describe the elements and factors in effective decision making

·      Explain the decision-making processes & apply the processes to their life situations.

·      Describe at least two models of creative thinking

 

2.     Problem Solving and Critical Thinking: (90 minutes)

Learning Objectives – By the end of the session the participants will be able to –

·      Identify different types of problem-solving skills

·      Practice at least one problem solving skill during a hypothetical & real situation

·      Describe context based creative thinking

·      Importance of critical thinking in workplace.

 

Part 3: Emotional Skills

 

1.     Stress management: (90 minutes)

Learning objective – After this lesson, learners will be able to

·      Define stress

·      Discuss common situation that cause stress

·      Recognize symptoms of stress

·      Experience a breathing activity

·      Understand how “mindfulness” (being in the moment) reduces stress.

 

2.     Emotional regulation: (90 minutes)

Learning objective – After this lesson, learners will be able to

·      Describe the nonverbal expression of a variety of emotions

·      Distinguish between their desirable & undesirable feelings/emotions

·      Articulate how much stress they have and what the stress looks and feels like

·      Participants will share their specific ways to cope with difficult feelings/emotions in different life situations.

 

3.     Positive thinking & Resilience: (90 minutes)

Learning objectives – After this lesson, learners will be able to

·      Distinguish between optimism & pessimism

·      Know how their thoughts impacts their feelings/emotions

·      Identify the various thinking traps/thought distortions

·      Reframe negative thoughts to positive or neutral.

 

4.     Self-esteem: (90 minutes)

Learning objectives – After this lesson, learners will be able to

·      Participants will learn what is self-esteem

·      Some of the ways to enhance self-esteem
